"Mum!"
That was all the five-year old could manage as he saw his mother die infront of his eyes. A fallen angel had took a dagger to her neck and had slit her throat clean open. As the boy's parent dropped to the floor, the murderer turned to look at Kael, a lust for death in his cold eyes. Kael reconized the tattered angel instantly, but was mortified to see him assassinate his mother before him.
"Ello, Kael..." the angel cooed, a crooked grin spreading over his bloodstained cheeks. Kael shook his head as he slipped lightly and landed on the bloody puddle on what once had been clean tile.
"Mum! Mummy! Wake up! Please!" he sobbed, trying to hold back tears as he crawled to her side.
"Shut the hell up, you little brat!" the murderer shouted, kicking the horrified child and making him slide across the floor and crash into the ajara door to the basement where he and his brother shared as a bedroom.
"B-but Gabriel!" Kael squeaked.
"I said SHUT UP!" this time, the angel threw his fist at the child, knocking the wind out of him. Kael began to whimper and slowly started to cry, but grabbed the door handle and quickly turned it as Gabriel began to apporach him. Slipping and crashing down the old wooden stairs, the five year old made his way to the basement to hide. The slow, tense footsteps of the assassinator following not too far behind. Kael quickly grabbed his favorite toy, a beaten teddy bear that had very much so seen better days. "Kael," Gabriel's words crept down the stairs as the footsteps continued to grown louder. "where did you go?" Kael cowered under his bed, trying not to cry.
"Mikey!" he whispered hoarsely to himself, praying that his brother would soon return home.
"There you are..." Gabriel cooed as he lifted the bedsheets to see the hiding child under the bed, clasping a firm hold on the son andholding him still.
"No!" Kael screamed as the murderer held him still as he pressed the dagger's blade to his small neck.
There was a whistle as the weapon was drawn quickly across the child's neck, drawing a crimson line trail.
A clatter was heard upstairs as a door opened upstairs. Gabriel growled, and threw the kid onto the bed as he quickly made it to a nearby ajar window to slip out into the night.
"I will avenge you..." was one of the last things Kael remembered as he landed with a hard crash in the underword, steam rising from the cracked earth. Moutains jutted up out of the horizon and a series of moons and other planets were seen in the sky quite close to the earth, or whatever planet, the child had landed on. Weeds twisted like dead snares across the terrain and seemed to claw at the child's feet as he walked along.
CAW!
Kael jumped to see a raven sitting nearby on a skeleton tree that looked like a simple breeze would knock it over. The bird ruffled it's feathers and preened as it watched the young kid from afar. Kael stepped closer and the bird paused to watch the little shape shifter. When it did turn once more, the raven bobbed it's head and cawed once more; beckoning Kael to follow.
After for what seemed like an eternity, Kael finally landed on the dirt infront of a large temple. "Huh?" The child gave a confused look as he inspected the stone ruin. Dark fog began to curl in as a figure quickly appeared before Kael.
"You are here for the results of your judgement," the other growled, but his voice was like thunder in the little kid's ears. "and so you will have it."
"Who are you? Where am I? Where is my brother? M-my mother?" Kael asked, feeling rather homesick.
"I am Lord Diabolos, and you, are dead."
"D-dead?!" The child wailed. "I want to go home!"
"I will read the result of your judgement..." Lord Diabolos nodded. "You are free to fly to heaven, if you'd like..." he paused. "...or you can become more than what you are."
"...More than what I am?" Kael repeated, oblivious that the lord was looking for a direct reight-away response.
"So be it!" the older masculine clapped his hands, and vanished. All Kael knew next, was a searing hot pain in the crease of his back. The little boy screamed, and then passed out. When he did awaken once more, he found a giant upside-down cross burnt across the center of his back. He whimpered in pain.
"Come" a voice said from afar. Lord Diabolos was standing nearby, and was waiting for Kael.
"Your training begins.......now."
It has been thirteen long years, and Kael had grown older. He mastered his new talent, for Diabolos changed his specialty of a Shape Shifter to a different one - that of a Reaper.
