A soft voice carried through the air, light and free as it echoed through various rooms and hallways near the young woman creating it. Her voice was sweet like a bird's chirp, trill adding to the lovely soprano. "Time to say goodbye..." The girl, Faye Amaryllis, was sitting on the balcony of one of the castle's many rooms, an unfinished canvas sitting still before her. She wore a simple peasant gown, the corset a vivid red around her torso. The sleeves were pulled behind her elbow, as her forearms were marked slightly with random dashes of green, white, and various other colors. Her hair, shining like fire in the cold sunlight, was left hanging free behind her shoulders, moving frequently by a light breeze whispering past. "Paesi che non ho mai..." Faye stopped for a moment, eyeing her creation curiously. Painted on the canvas was a partially done collection of magnolias, looking real, but holding the added simple elegance of a painting. A smile formed on her face, allowing her dark blue eyes to brighten as well, and she resumed her art and song, the image of flowers fresh in her mind.

Laying down on a ledge above Faye, Lemartes relaxed easily with the prime scenery and her lovely song. Scratching the side of his furry cheek with a paw, the black cat yawned softly in content. Every now and then he'd look down at her painting, allowing its elegance to swallow him whole. He was never a good painter, although he did use his body as a canvas. To him, transformation was an art in itself. One he had yet to perfect, despite his long years.
Calm, amber eyes trailed off to the view of their land. Lush, and beautiful, just how it should be. It had been a long time since he could just loaf around and relax, without worry of the upcoming war... And he found this peace to be most appreciative.

A frown formed on her ruby lips as she spotted a bump in the painting, a thin line running beneath the colors. Carefully, Faye picked the spot between her nails, finding that it detached easily. 'How strange,' she thought, rolling it between her fingers. A hair had landed on her painting. Faye inspected her brushes, causing her fingers to become covered in colorful paints, but could not find the cause. Then, looking down, a single black hair landed on her palm, short but delicate, and nearly identical to the hair before it. Her deep blue eyes turned above her for the source, finding only a black cat scratching its face, nothing abnormal. But as she watched, the creature looked at her painting with eyes that seemed too intelligent for any average feline. Faye quickly looked away, her face blushing at her embarrassment. Usually, she would be more than happy to sing a song or two for a group, or paint for the pleasure and comfort of others, but the idea that it had happened without her knowing brought about a rare shyness. She silently began to put her things away, hoping to get away from the awkward situation. At least, it was uncomfortable for her.

Glancing down at Faye with a confused look, Lemartes gracefully leapt down to the lower ledges, and then down to the balcony she was on. Clearing his throat, his small triangular ears folded back apologetically. "I'm sorry... I didn't mean to disturb you..." Sitting on his rear, he curled his long tail around his legs, trying to explain why he was there. "Politics just are not my forte, and I wondered out to get some air..."
It dawned on him that his story sounded a little questionable, and he paused, raising a paw to his mouth in a deliberate cough. "Anyways... You do have a nice voice, though... And I thought your art skills were more then magnificent, Faye..." He had only heard her once before, and found her voice to be rather soothing in after a stressful day.

Faye jumped a bit in surprise as the cat leaped down to the balcony, immediately stopping her movements. Some of the embarrassment had subsided, but she was still awkward in that she didn't know who this mysterious shifter was. Until he spoke. "My Lord," she said respectfully, inclining her head while giving a small curtsy. "Thankyou for your compliments, though I don't think I'm worthy of them," she spared a glance at her unfinished painting, "I'm sorry that I behaved in such a way. It's only that I become frightfully nervous when others hear me without my knowledge. It is not their fault, only for some reason it embarrasses me," she admitted, a bit of the rosy blush remaining in her cheeks.

His ears flattened back in mild embaressment as she performed a curtsy for him. "There's no need to be formal, Faye... I'm just another shifter. The title means nothing, really." Well, at least in his eyes and views. Taking a few steps towards her, he paused to also look at what she had accomplished so far. His voice held a tone of amusement as he spoke. "Not worthy, huh? Well, that's far better then what I could ever hope to do, and you're not even finnished yet..."

Her posture softened at his words and she allowed a gentle smile, her eyes sparkling. "Ah, I suppose if that is how you would like to look at it. But you are attempting to do great things for our kind. That deserves respect," Faye said with a small, single nod of her head. "As for my painting, I don't see near the potential that you do, as it was a mere spur-of-the-moment creation, but..." She touched the side of the canvas, then looking back to Lemartes. "If you really do like it, you could have it when it is finished," she proposed, grin still pleasant.

With a light smile, he turned back to Faye, nodding gratefully. "Thank you, Faye... But I can only hope I lead us to glory... The previous Lord knew what he was doing to every detail... I've got some pretty big shoes to fill, it seems." However, Lemartes remained optimistic about the subject, despite the pressure he felt.
In slight befuddlement, Lemartes blinked a few times before chuckling softly and shifted into his human form while talking. "I'd rather not if it contains any sentimental value to you once you are done. But if you would not mind, neither would I." The castle could use some decor, anyways.

Her head nodded lightly in agreement, her red locks bobbing obediently. "Yes, the previous Lord was very suited for the job, but I see no fault in you yet." Her smile grew the smallest bit. "So far I think you have filled out 'his shoes' quite well." Faye froze for a moment again as he shifted into his human body. It was quite different talking to a cat, rather than seeing his human form. But she calmed herself at once, thinking of how ridiculous she was being. "Oh, all pieces hold some level of sentimental value, but I can not hold them all forever. It is better that someone else takes them, especially if they appreciate them," she gave a small sigh, a motherly glance turning towards her canvas. "Even ones like this, that just come to me. Sometimes they end up being the best." She pulled her sleeves over her arms, the paint marks dry.

With one hand resting on his hip, the other went to scratch the back of his head. His expression seemed a little more jovial when at her comments, to which he could only shrug to. "I do not think I can accept such generous words... I have yet to encounter a task worthy of being able to be called 'Lord'... But, when the time comes, I will give it my all, that is for sure." Relaxing a little, he glanced at her painting as well. "If you'd like, I could frame the pieces of art you don't keep, and hang them up in the castle. The walls are a little barren, anyways."

Faye accepted his words of being Lord, sensing that she could neither convince him of his worth or allow him to be fully comfortable on the subject. Her eyes danced as he spoke, delighted at the idea of seeing her work in the castle. It would be wonderful, bringing even more beauty to the already glowing palace. "Oh, that would be an honor!" she responded excitedly, her innocent features positively beaming. Even her body language showed her enthusiasm, it seemed like it would begin trembling within moments.

Indeed, he was never comfortable about discussing his position on the social scale, not really sure if he could live up to the previous Lord. But, he kept a cheerful heart concerning the topic. As Faye seemed to explode with happiness after he made his offer, Lemartes rewarded the girl with a smug smile and a single confirming nod. "That way, everyone can view them, and you can still go back and look on your previous works should you feel the need to. Of course, they will be displayed in your name, Faye."

She tried to contain herself, blushing from her sudden outburst of emotions. She was so terrible at containing herself sometimes... But what a joy! "Displayed in my name?" her beam returned, and she almost felt the need to give the Lord a hug. But, perhaps that would be going a bit too far. "That sounds terrific!" she continued, already dreaming of what she could create for the empty walls. Faye brushed her skirts into order, leaving a few faint color marks on the white fabric. But she owned more of them, this was only one of her working dresses. "I'll do my best to make them wonderful," she finished, straightening her posture, the inch or so added still leaving her shorter than him.

The shifter’s confident smile held true as Faye went through a fit of glee. Had she hugged him though, he would have been very surprised. Lemartes knew not the amount of joy and honor he had just bestowed upon the girl, but he thought it fitting for Faye. She was quiet, and needed more recognition for her work, anyways… And besides, some of the other races enjoyed fabulous paintings as well, so if he had any visitors, they could catch a glimpse at her art, and if they wanted, they could haggle with her about it. “If you’d like to as well, feel free to sell some to merchants or have them come here to view your work. The money is yours, of course.”
(D: I hate it when that happens...)
